The number one top feature of a latex mattress is its unequaled support and pressure relief for your body while giving you sufficient softness that allows the latex to contour to you. The importance of this is your spine is kept in proper alignment in any sleep position. If movement and changing positions is an issue for you latex will come to the rescue like no other mattress.
More and more people are discovering latex mattresses. How do I love my latex–let me count the ways?
- Latex springs back instantly when you move around on it (unlike memory foam which takes a while to recover)
- No motion transfer from a partner sleeping next to you
- Sleeps cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter
- Open cell structure allows air flow throughout the mattress
- Resistant to moisture, build up of mold or mildews, and dust mites
- Can be designed to specifically fit your needs with multiple firmness choices
- Layers can be rearranged to change your mattress feel
- Latex is a renewable natural resource
- Latex mattresses never needs turning
Latex foam layers are made using one of two processes- Dunlop or Talalay.
The Dunlop process produces a firmer feeling latex because it is denser. The Talalay process produces a more buoyant feel because it has additional air in it. Talalay is the preferred choice by most. Latex mattresses are available in 100% organic latex or in blended latex. The blended latex offers the longer life because the blend adds uniformity and strength to the cell structure.
Mattresses made of latex are layered and the layers are graduated in firmness with the softer layer on top followed by firmer supporting layers. Based on individual preference the height of a latex mattress can be 6″ to 12″ of latex plus a zippered cover. Because the latex layers come in different firmnesses (chosen by you) they can be rearranged inside the cover in a different layering order–thus changing the mattress feel at any time.
